In the wake of the Military coup in Myanmar (Burma), members of Burmese community in Fort Wayne strongly believe that an organized movement is needed urgently. On, February 7th, 2021, Free Myanmar Task Force (USA) is established. We urge the members of Burmese communities throughout the United States to participate in this initiative to fight against the Military rule in Myanmar.
The Free Myanmar Task Force (USA) aims to collaborate among the local and international communities to raise awareness about the situation in Myanmar and to assist anyway possible to end the Military rule in Myanmar.
INITIATIVES
- Campaign locally and internationally to raise awareness about the situation in Myanmar.
- Support, participate and organize the protest against the Myanmar military and to restore democracy.
- Collaborate with organizations locally and internationally to support the movement against the Military rule in Myanmar.
- Support the people of Myanmar financially, particularly to those who are directly affected by the Civil Disobedience Movement and the nationwide protest against the military rule in Myanmar.
POSITION
- Condemn the military coup in Myanmar and the arrest of President U Win Myint, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, political figures, activists, and protesters.
- Denounce the declaration of a one-year State of Emergency in Myanmar and formation of the military government.
- Support the Civil Disobedience Movement and the nationwide protest against the Military coup.
- Honor the 2020 general election results.
DEMANDS
To the Myanmar Military
- Release all the detainees including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and U Win Myint immediately and unconditionally.
- Relinquish the military government immediately and transfer the power to the elected officials.
- Honor the 2020 election results and respect the will of the people.
To the United States government
- Support to restore democracy and the rule of law in Myanmar.
- Take measures for the immediate and unconditional release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all detainees.
- Expand the targeted sanctions on the Myanmar generals and their associates, to impose restrictions on the financial and material support to the newly created military government.
- Alliance and work closely with UN, EU, SAARC, ASEAN and other like-minded governments to take effective measures against the Burmese generals and their associates to bring all the responsible parties of the military coup to justice.
To United Nations
- Reconvene the UN Security Council meeting on Myanmar and put effective pressure on the Myanmar generals to restore democracy and rule of law in Myanmar.
